"Small things often: classroom connections" is a strategy adapted from the Gottman's research into relationship-building.
This method teaches us to identify and respond to small bids for connection from our students, through which we can engage in more frequent, student-led interactions. These interactions have the potential to generate the following outcomes:
a) improve communication skills between students and faculty
b) highlight opportunities for incremental changes that may increase student learning
c) foster belonging and community engagement for all learners
d) reduce destructive/non-constructive feedback on teaching evaluations.
