Every professor senses when students are about to hit a wall: the text is dense, prerequisite knowledge is missing, the material feels foreign, or the stakes of being wrong feel too high. Often, that wall is foreseeable. In this hands-on workshop, participants will examine four high-leverage instructional moves – Create the Conditions for Risk, Surface Prior Knowledge, Scaffold the Content, Connect to Experience – designed to remove barriers before they derail the learning. Participants will leave the workshop with four concrete, classroom-ready strategies and a plan for putting them to work in the very next class session.
Presenter: Dr. Kelly McClure, Professor of Practice, Education Program
