Even if you never plan to use AI in your classroom, it is already changing what students can produce. The question is whether our assessments are still measuring learning.
This three and a half-day Summer Institute invites faculty to rethink assessment in a moment when AI tools are rapidly reshaping how students learn and produce work. Whether you are actively incorporating AI into your teaching or prefer to limit its use, the central challenge is the same: how do we design assessments that meaningfully evaluate student learning?
Through a combination of facilitated sessions, guided work time, and peer collaboration, participants will examine how AI changes what it means to demonstrate understanding. The institute will focus on designing assessments that emphasize process over product, make student thinking visible, and align more clearly with the skills we want students to develop.
Participants will leave with a redesigned or newly developed assessment, along with practical strategies for implementation in their courses. The institute will be led in part by José Bowen, along with Tulane faculty and staff experienced in course and assessment design. Learn more about our guest speaker.
